October 29th gave birth to the start of my 2010/2011 snowboard season and it was a great day to start. The sun was out and the snow was plentiful as we skinned up what Pat and Steve said to have been there toughest/steepest skin ever. I handled it pretty well so that made me happy and the idea to split my board and get skins was one of the most satisfying decisions I have made (I will take photos and explain what this "split-board" set-up is later). We went to an area in the Northern Bridgers which typically gets more snow than Bridger Bowl and is less crowded. The area also offers a much different variety of riding and is more "big mountain" style where you are riding steeper terrain that starts as a chute and opened into a vast untouched bowl. The rocks were fairly well covered and I only got one little scrape so that was also great. We got a little lost on our way out finding ourselves falling into tons of little cavities and this extended our trip but it was still well worth it.
On the 11th I did not have school due to Veteran's Day and I decided what better way to celebrate than getting out and doing something active? We went and did the same exact run we did on the 29th of October and there was at least a foot of fresh snow and it was much lighter than before which was a nice creamy snow. The temperature never got much above 20 degree and it was snowing throughout the day. Once we made it to the top of the ridge we encountered 20-30 mph winds which made for an interesting skin along the ridge but once we dropped down below the wind disappeared. We dropped into the same chute and this time we even found ourselves getting out the right way and rode straight to the car.
